It's my first post here, but I've been reading you for sometime. I'm from Italy and I'm a major Joan Jett fan but I really admire Cherie, her ability as an artist as well for her voice. I didn't know anything although about her life because even though I'm a JJ fan from late 80s it's not much time that I know about who were the Runaways and I'm sorry to be late and I'm sorry they didn't last longer... It took me a week and a dictionary but I finally finished reading Cherie's book "Neon Angel" and I think that it's full of really bad things that happened, but what also comes out of this book is the big love between Cherie and her sister Marie Well, I'm here just to say to Cherie "Welcome back, I'm happy you're here" and give a big virtual hug, bye!

Ciao Cherie!
A little question: I've seen a video of a show of yours of 1998, there were some Runaways songs, some new one I guess (I love "Believe"!) and others. One was "Since you've been gone", can it be that this song was released in 1978 by a group from SouthAfrica (they made only one album) called CLOUT? I got that LP at the time and since I was 13 and I lost it years later when I moved out,so it's been a long time, but I loved that song! if it's that, it's just a beautiful surprise to hear that from your voice after all these years! My memory of Clout's version is of a very good song, but I can't be impartial, I was young and it was one of my first "rock" albums, and also, you know that memories sometimes change in our mind, so I believe Cherie & Marie's version is great! In that album Clout sang also "Substitute", which I think has been released later by more than an artist.

This Cherie and Marie Currie song was released as a single in 1979 and then on their 1980 'Messin' With The Boys' lp.
Rainbow released their version in 1979 also. Cherie and Marie's version is much much better though, IMO!
I've never heard the Clout version but I'd like to.
10/27/79 Rainbow's 'Since You've Been Gone' was number 12 on the top 40. Down from number seven.
Some music reviewer said this about Rainbow's version:
"This 'Russ Ballard' song had previously been recorded by South African band 'Clout' on their 1978 album, and that was in my opinion much better than this version. I'm not trying to say that this didn't deserve to reach number six because it did. In fact, this single was seemingly the one that started the '80s heavy/hard rock revival in the UK."
